I'm writing a short story (for a fiction class) and it takes place at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, particularly the tea lobby during afternoon tea. Problem is: I've never been there. I need people who have either worked there or visited there to describe what tea at the Empress is like: describe the ambience, decor, smells, colors, tea, food - I want to live through your experiences vicariously and it will create images I will use for my story. Was a harpist present during tea or did they have chamber music playing in the background? Was it stuffy and old-fashioned or young, yuppie, and bitchy? Enquiring minds NEED to know. If I like your answer, I'll write you in as a character.Has anyone stayed at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC?
The Empress Tea is highly over-rated. It's actually very expensive for what it is, and the taste is, well... sub-par. Especially in Victoria, you can easily get an afternoon tea somewhere else for 1/3 the price and ten times better quality. Sorry, but I wouldn't be able to do your story justice with my review for the Empress tea room!! :(
